The official dates for Las Mercedes, Constitution Day and Christmas in the Dominican Republic, with a practical plan for household schedules.
A public holiday should not leave you arranging school pickups and household cover at the last minute. These are the dates remaining in the Ministry of Labour’s published 2026 calendar.
The three dates to save

Our Lady of Mercy and Christmas do not move. Constitution Day is observed on a different date from its anniversary. Check the official calendar instead of assuming every marked date in a calendar app is the day off. The source below contains the complete schedule.
Agree on cover before the holiday week
Our practical suggestion is to discuss who will be home, which tasks are needed and the agreed working schedule. Write down changes and confirm everyone understands them. A lack of planning should not turn a holiday into permanent on-call availability.
Keep the school and employment calendars separate. A school closure does not automatically mean a staff member takes on extra childcare hours. Discuss cover and its conditions before making plans.
Keep one shared version
Add the date, responsible person and any shift change to the household calendar. Avoid keeping different versions in messages, a notebook and someone’s memory. Check already approved holidays and leave requests too.
The calendar organises dates; it does not determine pay or compensation. Those depend on the employment regime, schedule and circumstances of the individual case.
