Back to school 2026: a household routine that works
Organise school runs, snacks and household tasks for the 2026–2027 school year, with clear responsibilities and a realistic staff schedule.
Back to school brings bags, snacks and a busier morning. MINERD announced 24 August as the start of the 2026–2027 school year. By September, it is a useful moment to adjust anything that is still not working at home.
Start with the actual schedule
Confirm arrival, pickup and activity times with each school. The national calendar does not replace notices from your child’s own centre. Include travel time: a three o’clock pickup does not start at three o’clock.
Create a simple weekly table with four columns: day, task, responsible person and time. Include preparing snacks, the school run, pickup and checking supplies. The purpose is clear ownership of each task, not filling every minute.
Agree on new responsibilities
Our practical recommendation is to discuss changes with staff. Caring for a sick child, driving or staying later may change the agreed role. Do not assume everything fits into the existing schedule.
Choose a backup contact for delays and emergencies. Share only what that person needs, such as the pickup address, authorised contact and time. Keep children’s sensitive documents out of large messaging groups.
Review the plan in ten minutes
At the end of the first week, ask what caused delays or confusion. Adjust the plan and record changes in the household calendar. HogarStaff can help organise events and staff tasks; school pickup authorisations must still be arranged directly with the school.
A useful routine is understandable at a glance. If finding today’s pickup person takes twenty messages, simplify it further.
